What to expect at your appointment
An ophthalmology visit is a comprehensive examination focussing on the health and function of your eyes.
When you arrive for your appointment, our assistants and ophthalmologists will conduct various tests to assess your vision, eye pressure, and overall eye health. This will often include the use of eye drops which may cause temporary blurring of vision so we recommend you do not drive yourself to the appointment.
Tests may include visual acuity assessments, field and OCT, as well as examinations of the external and internal structures of your eyes. We may also use specialised equipment to evaluate the health of your retina, optic nerve, and other vital components of your visual system.
During your visit, our specialists will conduct a thorough examination and provide any necessary treatments or recommendations for further care.
Additionally, we'll discuss any concerns or symptoms you may have, and provide guidance on maintaining good eye health and preventing eye diseases. Whether you're visiting for a routine check, treatment of a specific eye condition, or seeking advice on improving your vision, our goal is to ensure that you receive the highest quality care and leave feeling confident that your eye health is our priority.

For more information about visits to our clinics, please continue to read our FAQ’s below.
Prior to your appointment
Please ensure you have completed your online forms and submitted them back to us.
Every new patient, or returning patients who have not been to the rooms for 2 years or more will be required to complete a Patient Information form. This form provides the Ophthalmologist with the most up to date information regarding personal and medical data.
A current referral is required for all appointments; you will be entitled to Medicare rebates on most of our services and your claim will be sent electronically to Medicare after your visit.
A referral from your GP or Optometrist is valid for 12 months. Referrals from Specialists are valid for only 3 months.
You should always allow UP TO 2 HOURS for your appointments; wait times will vary depending on how complex your eye condition is, what testing is required, as well as any requirement for dilating drops prior to testing. We always suggest you have someone drive you to and from your appointment as dilating drops will affect your driving vision.

FAQ's
Insurance
Patient visits at the clinics will usually attract a Medicare rebate therefore reducing the out of pocket expense to patients.
However, patients who are admitted to hospital for day surgery for conditions such as cataract or pterygium removal will need to have appropriate Private Health Insurance cover. Patients are encouraged to check this with their individual fund.
For patients who do not have Private Health Insurance cover, public hospital wait listing is available.

Billing
Once the appointment is finished, you will be invoiced for any testing and consultation received. As we are a private practice, full payment of your account is required on the day.
As most services do attract a Medicare rebate, your invoice will be sent electronically at the completion of your appointment; usually your rebate is deposited to your nominated bank account (details with Medicare) within 24-48 hours.
Referrals from a General Practitioner or Optometrist are usually valid for a 12 month period. In some instances the Ophthalmologist may accept a referral that is valid for a longer period or time, or an indefinite referral, however in the instance of an indefinite referral it is only valid for the eye condition for which it was written for.
Referrals from other Specialists are only valid for 3 months.
It is the patient's responsibility to ensure there is a current referral, however we do remind patients approximately 2 weeks prior to any booked appointment.
