Appointments


Referrals are received from General Practitioners, Optometrists and Specialists. These are generally received electronically which is the most efficient way for us to receive your referral. Once your referral has been received it will be assessed to determine how soon you should see an Ophthalmologist.
Booking Process
NEW PATIENTS: If you are a new patient to the practice, your referral will be assessed to ensure you can be offered an appointment in our rooms. One of the friendly team will be in contact to arrange an appointment see one of the Ophthalmologists in an appropriate time frame for your specific eye condition.
RETURNING PATIENTS: If you already have an appointment, simply ensure your referral is current and you will receive a reminder a week prior to your booking.
If your condition requires URGENT CARE, your referrer will generally call us to make your booking, OR, mark their referral with some level of urgency for our attention. Your referral will be assessed and our staff will contact you to offer an appointment in an appropriate timeframe. Priority is given to to patients who may have a sight threatening condition.
- For all NEW patients, or patients who we have not seen for 2 or more years, we need to be in possession of your referral prior to making your booking.
- Your referrer can usually send this to us electronically. Please ask them to do this on your behalf.
- If you have been given the referral to make your own appointment, you should email it to us at info@westerneye.com.au
- Should you feel your condition is more urgent than the appointment you have been offered, please present back to your Optometrist for a routine check. If your Optometrist deems your situation has changed and is more urgent, they will advise us accordingly and your appointment may be prioritised.
- If we are unable to accommodate an appointment at the rooms, we will advise you and your referrer of this and you may be redirected to a specialist or hospital more equipped to accommodate your eyecare needs.
- Similarly, if we are unable to accommodate an urgent appointment we will advise you and your referrer of this and you may be redirected to a different specialist, hospital or your local emergency department (depending on the seriousness of your eye condition).
Booking Requirements
- An Optometrist, GP or Specialist referral letter is required for all appointments.
- A referral ensures you receive a rebate for services from Medicare, as well as provide the Ophthalmologist with relevant information pertaining to your eye health history.
- If you are a new patient you will be provided with confirmation via email, with a secure link to complete our Patient Information form online prior to your appointments.
- If you have not seen one of the doctors for 2 or more years, you will also need to complete the Patient Information form to ensure your information is up to date and accurate.
